Cushions make a lounge set truly comfortable. With a few simple habits, they will stay fresh and beautiful for years. Below you will read how to clean, wash and store them, with separate advice for the Bee Wett® cushions by Apple Bee.
In short
- Remove stains immediately, before they soak into the fabric.
- Wash covers at a maximum of 30 °C (always follow the care label), do not tumble dry and do not iron.
- After rain: stand regular cushions upright or bring them inside to dry. Bee Wett® cushions can remain outside.
- In winter store them inside in a dry and clean place.
Daily maintenance
- Regularly brush off dry dirt, sand and leaves.
- Dab up spilled drinks or food residue immediately with a clean cloth. Do not rub, as this pushes the stain deeper into the fabric.
- Occasionally plump up the cushions so the filling retains its shape.
- After a rain shower, do not leave cushions flat on a wet seat, but stand them upright or on their side to dry.
Washing covers
- Unzip the covers and zip them back up so the zipper does not get damaged.
- Soak them in lukewarm soapy water or wash them on a delicate cycle at a maximum of 30 °C.
- Use a mild detergent, no bleach, chlorine or harsh chemicals.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean, lukewarm water.
- Do not tumble dry and do not spin-dry. Lay or hang the covers to dry in the shade.
Tip: put the covers back on the filling while they are still slightly damp. As they dry, they will pull tightly around the cushion.
Bee Wett® cushions by Apple Bee
Bee Wett® cushions are made to remain outside. The foam has an open-cell structure and a drainage system at the bottom, allowing rainwater to flow right through and the cushion to dry quickly. The covers are made of Olefin: water-repellent, wear-resistant, dirt-repellent and colorfast in the sun. Apple Bee gives the following washing advice:
- Brush off dirt and remove stains immediately, before they soak in.
- Soak the covers in soapy water or wash them at a maximum of 30 °C. Never use harsh or corrosive chemicals or chlorine.
- Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. A little Harmisol in the final rinse helps maintain the water-repellent layer.
- Do not tumble dry, spin-dry or iron: this keeps the fabric elastic.
- Put the covers back on the cushions while they are damp.
- If you do not use the cushions for a long time, such as in winter, store them inside. This keeps them clean.
Regular cushions are not Bee Wett®. Most other garden cushions are water-repellent, but the filling absorbs moisture during prolonged rain. So bring them inside or into a cushion box when it rains.
Storing in winter
- Clean the cushions and let them dry completely before storing them. Storing them damp causes mold.
- Store them in a dry, ventilated place, preferably not in a sealed plastic bag.
- Do not place them directly on a cold concrete floor.
Frequently asked questions
Can garden cushions go in the washing machine?
Usually the covers can, on a delicate cycle up to 30 °C. Always check the care label. Not the inner cushions with filling.
How do I remove mold spots from cushions?
Let the cover dry thoroughly in the sun, brush the spots dry and then wash the cover at a maximum of 30 °C. Prevent new mold by always storing cushions dry.
Can Bee Wett® cushions really remain outside?
Yes, that is what they are made for: the water flows through them and they dry quickly. For winter, Apple Bee does advise storing them inside, so they stay clean.
